Abstract

The three major elements toward developing an awareness of the benefits of nuclear power is to understand why nuclear power is needed, the safety consideration of nuclear power and the operating plant safety performance. The need for nuclear power is underscored by the fact that energy is an essential ingredient of economic growth. Energy growth and GNP growth have historically exhibited a remarkable lock-step relationship. It would not be correct to say that the availability of energy causes economic growth, but economic growth certainly cannot take place unless adequate supplies of energy are available for the goods and services that make up the gross national product.
