Abstract

EFFECTS OF DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENT OF 137Cs ON THE SAFETY OF SITE CANDIDATE OF RADWASTE DISPOSAL FACILITY. Distribution coefficient value is a representative number of chemical-physical processes in a contact of radionuclides with natural materials. The number of Kd values indicated the loading factor of natural materials to the existence of radionuclide, and it would minimize the number of radionuclides dispersed into the environment. Natural material such as site’s soil is used as a natural barrier system on the radioactive waste disposal facility. The high number of Kd value of site’s soil to radionuclide may retard the dispersion of radionuclides into the environment, and it will determine the performance of natural barrier system to indicate the level of safety of the candidate site of radioactive waste disposal facility. PRESTO software was used to study the safety of candidate site of disposal facility by observing 137Cs pathways to environment. Results showed that Kd value of 137Cs to site soil has been significantly effects on the safety level of a radioactive waste disposal facility.
